Game 4 P.E.A.C.E alumnus Big Hutch, born in Pomona, California, emerged onto the hip-hop scene in the late 1980s. Big Hutch, also known as Cold 187um, is a legendary figure in West Coast hip-hop, renowned for his pivotal role as a founding member of the influential group Above the Law.

Above the Law, consisting of Big Hutch, KMG the toIllustrator (Kevin Michael Gulley), and DJ Total K-Oss (Anthony Stewart), became pioneers of the G-funk sound, blending funk, soul, and hip-hop elements into a distinct West Coast style. Their debut album, “Livin’ Like Hustlers,” released in 1990 under Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records, is considered a classic of the genre. It featured Hutch’s deep, resonant voice and his innovative production techniques, which included sampling and live instrumentation, setting a new standard in rap music production.

Following their debut success, Above the Law continued to make waves with albums like “Black Mafia Life” (1993), which further solidified their reputation as innovators in West Coast rap. Hutch’s production on tracks like “Untouchable” and “Black Superman” showcased his versatility and knack for creating atmospheric, cinematic beats that complemented the group’s lyrical narratives.

Beyond his work with Above the Law, Big Hutch embarked on a prolific solo career, releasing albums such as “Executive Decisions” (2001) and “Live from the Ghetto” (2009). As a solo artist, he continued to push boundaries with his production style, blending funk, soul, and jazz influences into his signature sound.

In addition to his music career, Big Hutch is also recognized for his entrepreneurial spirit, founding his own record label, 187um Entertainment, through which he has released his solo projects and collaborated with other artists.

Throughout his career, Big Hutch has been revered for his contributions to hip-hop culture, both as a lyricist and as a groundbreaking producer. His influence on the development of the G-funk sound and his ability to craft compelling, storytelling-driven music have left an indelible mark on the genre.
