Born on September 26, 1973, in Watts, Los Angeles, he grew up in Carson, California, a city he often references in his music.

Ras Kass’s journey into hip-hop began in the early 1990s, gaining recognition with his debut single “Remain Anonymous,” which led to his first record deal. His debut album, “Soul on Ice” (1996), is celebrated for its intellectual rigor and intricate lyricism. Tracks like “Nature of the Threat” and “Soul on Ice” delve deep into historical, racial, and political analysis, establishing Ras Kass as a formidable voice in hip-hop.

Following “Soul on Ice,” Ras Kass released “Rasassination” in 1998, featuring collaborations with major artists like Dr. Dre, Xzibit, and Twista.
